Implications of competition in retail energy markets for the water sector

Northumbrian Water hired Economic Insight to undertake a review of competition investigations in the energy sector in order to draw out the implications for the likely development of retail markets in water for household customers.

 

Amongst other findings, our study found that customer engagement was likely to be a critical determinant of the extent of competition in water retail.  Therefore, measures designed to promote engagement should be a priority area of focus.
