Interest(ing): Compound interest and compound inflation in Merricks v Mastercard
One of our Directors, James Harvey, has shared his insights on the Competition Appeals Tribunal’s (CAT) certification of the claim brought by Mr Merricks against Mastercard, the first-ever antitrust class action in the UK. His article explores the CAT’s decision to not allow the claim to include compound interest, which reduces the potential claim from £16 billion to £13.8 billion – a reduction of around £48 for each of the 46 million people in the class.
Impact assessment of International Regulatory Cooperation initiatives
Economic Insight has been commissioned by the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) to assess the impacts of International Regulatory Cooperation (IRC) initiatives. We will be reviewing the existing literature and talking to a range of stakeholders involved with the initiatives.
Economic Insight provided PR24 support to Yorkshire Water
Economic Insight supported Yorkshire Water in its response to Ofwat’s PR24 methodology consultation; and undertook a review of CEPA’s report on the allocation of risk.
Economic experts in novel class action case
The Competition Appeal Tribunal (the CAT) last week published a summary of collective proceedings claim form in a novel class action case against Govia Thameslink Railway (GTR). We are the economic experts advising on this case. Further details can be found on the CAT’s website here
